Essential Goods Program Provides Mattress to Hospital Social Worker, Breast Cancer Patient

ReSOURCE’s Essential Goods Program provides vouchers to community members in need, for purchase of necessary household goods in any of the ReSOURCE stores in Burlington, Barre, and Morrisville. One of the most commonly needed items for families trying to re-establish themselves in housing is beds. ReSOURCE redistributed 2,812 beds in 2013. We frequently have more demand for mattresses than we have supply, with many customers on a waiting list.

One example of an Essential Goods Success Story is Michelle, a hospital social worker, helping a 62 year-old woman with breast cancer and other medical complications. Michelle called ReSOURCE looking for an affordable or free queen size mattress for the woman. Through the Essential Goods Program, she received a voucher for the cost of the mattress and delivery to the woman’s home in St. Albans.
