Our LEAP (Learn, Earn, and Prosper) students just went on their Fall retreat – one of three yearly outings the program participates in. The students come from all walks of life and range from the ages of 14 to 23.
“The students were fun, welcoming, and most of all, ready to learn as much as they could about living independently, said Cameron, LEAP’s Human Resources Coordinator and first-time retreat attendee.
The students had the chance to hone and practice their skills throughout the retreat. They were able to help Barre ReSOURCE out with many of their tasks, including stocking, greeting, bagging, and tidying up the shop. Each student set goals for themselves that were achieved throughout the weekend. They also attended a couple workshops involving discussion on advocating for yourself as a blind or visually impaired individual.
“The students learned a lot about what they’re capable of as well as skills that will help them throughout their life,” said Cameron, “This was a very successful retreat. For me, it was very valuable in terms of learning about what these students go through on a day-to-day basis.”
