From Volunteer to Volunteer Coordinator

Jim has been volunteering at ReSOURCE for awhile. Recently, he went from volunteer to working as the AmeriCorps Every Body Works Volunteer Coordinator, which he’s loving.

Jim got involved with ReSOURCE one summer when he was looking for volunteer opportunities. He happened upon ReSOURCE and saw that they needed a book volunteer. Since he loves books and loves to organize, he began his relationship with our organization. He was such a respected and diligent volunteer that he was approached to come on full time as the AmeriCorps Every Body Works Volunteer Coordinator. “I really like it; it’s a lot to keep track of, but it’s one of those things where I come in and start working and all of the sudden it’s 4 o’clock,” said Jim of his new position. That’s all we can ask for in life, really – enjoying your work so much that it doesn’t even feel like work. “It’s the most positive work environment I’ve ever worked in,” he continued. He’s simultaneously working on his Master’s in Social Work, and he feels as though the position ties in well through the community members he gets to interact with and the demographic we serve.

He feels that volunteers are important for organizations such as ReSOURCE to keep it flowing. Additionally, “people who volunteer regularly, generally feel happier,” Jim stated. “Health-wise, studies have shown that people who volunteer in their community are healthier for it.” He touched on the sense of community volunteering builds as well, whether it’s the community within the staff or interacting with the community as a whole, which is a large part of ReSOURCE’s mission.

We’re very happy to have Jim on board! We’re always recruiting for volunteers (especially for our move to Williston coming up soon). If you want to be more involved in your community or just love helping people out, reach out to inquire about our volunteer opportunities at [email protected]. We hope to see you soon!
