Start a new career in the high-demand, good-wage construction trades of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, pipe-fitting, plumbing, maintenance, weatherization, or site preparation by enrolling in Construction 101.
Construction 101 prepares trainees for entry-level work in the trades. During this six-week course, participants earn credentials to build up their experience and resume. With established employer partnerships, trainees are given the opportunity to receive job placement.
Through our past several years of operation, 98% of graduates have been placed in employment, earning an average wage over $17/hour.
In this 6-week, Monday – Friday (9-4), program trainees learn key knowledge and fundamentals that will create a solid foundation for future growth.
The first 2 weeks are focused on the NCCER credentials.
The variety of hand & power tools covered can be found on any job site, creating a core knowledge to build upon with future experiences. Additionally, during this timeframe, trainees receive professional development, which includes a mock interview and resume development and accumulates to a job fair with employers that are actively hiring.
Weeks 3 & 4 are really when the sawdust starts to fly! Not only do you complete an OSHA-10 class, but you then use all the practical skills you’ve just been taught on community build projects. Past projects have included framing a wall and adding electrical outlets, picnic tables/benches, 3-sided sheds, and chicken coops.
Weeks 5 & 6 are when work experiences begin. Based on employers at the job fair, the trainee decides on which employer they’d like to experience a few days on the job with. We call this the try before you buy, and it is also the time when we say many job offers on the table.
A successful trainee is someone who is motivated and ready to work hard to start their next step in the trades.
This can range from career changers who have already showcased professionalism but need experience with tools to the recent High School grad who is just starting their career.
We are able to tailor experiences that serve to meet the trainee and program goals.
Hear from our trainees to see how our programs have made a real impact on their careers and lives.
