Learn about YouthBuild!

ReSOURCE YouthBuild is a comprehensive 12-month training program for youth seeking alternative pathways to education and employment.

The program caters to young adults in Chittenden County and Central Vermont, offering them a chance to earn their high school diploma and trade certifications in construction and weatherization. As part of their experience, participants also engage in community service, contributing to local projects and initiatives.

Young women and men ages 16-24 living in Chittenden County and Central Vermont.

Participants in the YouthBuild program receive comprehensive training in various areas, including construction skills, OSHA10, NCCER, First Aid, and CPR Training. As part-time AmeriCorps members, they also have the opportunity to earn an AmeriCorps Education Award, further enhancing their educational and career prospects.

ReSOURCE YouthBuild not only transforms the lives of its participants but also makes a significant impact on the community. Students complete service hours through affordable housing construction, weatherization, and direct service projects, leaving a lasting positive mark on the community spaces and organizations they work with.

YouthBuild Serving Vermont

Across the nation, young people are transforming their lives and rebuilding their communities. They are graduating from school, supporting their families, and restoring their neighborhoods.

ReSOURCE offers the only two YouthBuild programs in the state of Vermont. In addition to construction trade job skills, our focus on energy efficiency, including weatherization training, fully integrates the work of relieving poverty and protecting the environment with job skills training.

The ReSOURCE YouthBuild program will make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of our youth. Through our program design, we empower youth to serve as active members of their community, helping those most in need while they pursue their futures.

Working with the Community

ReSOURCE hosts the only YouthBuild programs in Vermont, but a nationwide network is linked together and supported by YouthBuild USA, a national nonprofit organization founded in 1990.

ReSOURCE YouthBuild is recognized as an AmeriCorps National Service Site. All students are co-enrolled as AmeriCorps members and are required to complete 675 hours of direct community service during their enrollment. In return, students receive a bi-weekly financial stipend, along with a $2,200 Segal Education Award upon completion.

Students complete their service hours through affordable housing construction, weatherization, and disaster response services, and through the weekly, student-led, direct service projects for community organizations and individuals in need.

The impact that our ReSOURCE YouthBuild students make on the community through these service projects hold tremendous weight for the program. In a given year, each YouthBuild crew will complete 20 community service projects working with different organizations and community spaces; such as Vermont Food Bank, Respite House, Shelburne Museum, Burlington and Barre Gardens, and Burlington Parks and Rec.
